How to Install the Fuel Pump on a Volkswagen Jetta MK5

In this guide, you will learn how to replace the fuel pump on a Volkswagen Jetta MK5: first, empty the fuel tank, then disconnect the negative terminal from the battery and move it away to prevent accidental reconnection. Next, remove the rear seat and the cover plate of the pump, then disconnect the electrical connector: clean the cover of any debris, then remove the locking ring from the pump. At this point, you can take the pump out of its housing, being careful as there may still be fuel at the bottom, so ensure adequate ventilation to avoid fuel vapours. Check that the gasket is in good condition and drain any residual fuel. Clean the tank, replace the gasket, and install the new pump with the locking ring, reconnect the electrical contacts, and replace the pump cover. You can also put the rear seat cushion back, reconnect the negative terminal, and refuel.
