On the Volkswagen Golf 5, in order to replace the timing belt, you need to lift the car by loosening the screws that fix the front right wheel and also removing the corresponding wheel arch: once these components have been removed, you will also need to detach the side panel of the engine block. Underneath it, there will be the belt, which can be removed by loosening the central nut of the tensioner roller so that the tension is reduced; at this point, you can insert the new belt, bringing it back to tension by installing the roller and reassembling all the components.
