To change the battery on a Yamaha Xmax 400, you will need a 4mm Allen key, a crosshead screwdriver, and a 10mm socket. The battery is located at the front, so you need to remove the front cover. Start by removing a plastic cap between the front headlights, then detach the lower part of the front fairing. To remove the front fairing, unscrew one screw at the centre of the headlights and two screws at the sides of the dashboard using the 4mm Allen key. Once the screws are removed, pull off the fairing. With the fairing removed, locate the battery; to take out the battery, remove the screws holding the metal bracket using the 10mm socket, and also remove the plastic cover for better access to the battery. Remove the battery by unscrewing the negative terminal first, then the positive terminal with a crosshead screwdriver. Once the old battery is out, install the new battery in the same manner, screwing in the positive terminal first and then the negative terminal. Test by starting the scooter, check if the alternator works properly, and after these checks, reassemble the front of the scooter in reverse order to disassembly.

Changing the Oil and Filter on the Kawasaki Versys

Here’s how to change the oil and filter on the Kawasaki Versys. Warm up the engine for a few minutes, place the motorcycle on the centre stand, open the filler cap, and remove the drain plug underneath the engine. Place a catch basin under the oil sump, unscrew the drain plug, and let the oil drain out. Unscrew the oil filter and let all the old oil drain out. Install a new filter and tighten it with the appropriate tool. Pour half a glass of new oil into the filler cap and wait for it to flow out of the drain hole, after which replace the plug. Fill with approximately 1.8 litres of new oil, take it for a short ride to circulate the oil in the engine, stop the engine, and check the level through the designated window. Top up if necessary.
