Replacing the Thermostat on an Audi A3 MK2

In this video, see how to replace the thermostat that regulates the engine cooling system on an Audi A3. Open the bonnet. Using a 10mm spanner, remove the nut securing the dipstick and move it aside to gain better access in the confined space.

Place a container to catch the fluid that will spill when you remove the cover by unscrewing the two bolts holding it. Remove the old thermostat and replace it with a new one, also changing the corresponding gasket. Refit the cover and tighten the two bolts using a flexible 10mm spanner, paying particular attention to the lower bolt.

Reposition the dipstick and top up the coolant level. Run the engine to temperature to check for correct operation.
