How to Change the Airbag Cover on the Audi A3 8V Steering Wheel

Even if you are only removing the cover, the airbag must be disassembled, so disconnect the battery 15 minutes before starting the operation and handle the airbag with extreme caution (avoid impacts, do not touch the electrical contacts). To remove the airbag, insert a screwdriver into the holes on the back of the steering wheel to release the securing clips. Pull the airbag towards you and disconnect the electrical connectors. Carefully turn the unit over and remove the 4 plastic clips with springs that cover the screws securing the cover. Gently unscrew the screws, detach the old cover, and fit the new cover (available on eBay with code 187847119916 for £135.99 + £9.90 shipping). Align the cover perfectly, tighten the screws, reattach the plastic clips, remount the airbag on the steering wheel, and reconnect the battery.
