To remove the automatic transmission from an Audi A4, you must first remove the front suspension, the half shafts, and the catalytic converter. Other obstructing parts can remain connected but must be moved to allow the transmission case to be pulled out. Then, the transmission can be removed from its housing: the part will be quite heavy, so it is advisable to use appropriate tools or get help from another person.

Once the case is removed, it can be inspected for any defects or malfunctions.
