Removing the Steering Wheel and Airbag

Model: BMW Serie 3 E46 - Years 1998-2006

Before proceeding, activate the switch located on the dashboard that disables all installed airbags. The position of this device is clearly marked, and in case of uncertainty, refer to the vehicle's user manual. Start by unscrewing the screws securing the airbag module, accessible through the holes on the sides of the steering column using an Allen wrench. Loosen the screws and carefully pull the airbag cover, disengaging the plastic clips. Once the airbag is removed, disconnect the two connectors on the back by releasing the small plastic tabs with a tool. Be careful not to drop the airbag module, do not place it near intense heat sources, do not carry it away, and do not shake or hit it, as it may explode. Unscrew the screws on the column and inside the steering wheel, and carefully remove the wiring to take out the buttons. Now you can remove the steering wheel retaining bolt using a socket wrench and puller.
