How to remove the fuel pump from a BMW 5 Series? First, disconnect the battery cables. Then, remove the trunk mat. Use a socket wrench to remove the screws securing the metal cover, and take it out of its place. Use absorbent paper around the perimeter to soak up any fluid leaks. Unscrew the large retaining bolt of the fuel pump (if present on the model), disconnect the power connectors and the fluid circulation hoses. Extract the floating fuel pump from its housing along with any attached parts. Finally, install a new piece.
