Trunk Handle Repair

Model: BMW Serie 5 E39 - Years 1995-2003
Part: Trunk lock

If you have difficulty opening the trunk, the repair is quite simple. You only need a screwdriver and a pair of needle-nose pliers. Remove the screw that secures the plastic handle and gently pull it off, as the opening cable is attached behind it. The issue likely resides in the small return spring located on the back of the handle. Using the pliers, carefully lift this spring and reposition it in its original place. To prevent future jams, you can lubricate the mechanism using silicone spray.

How to Adjust the Handbrake on VW Polo

If pulling the handbrake lever results in a long travel distance, significantly exceeding the usual 4 to 5 clicks, it means you need to adjust the travel to compensate for cable slack and wear on the shoes. This is a manual operation carried out using the adjustment nuts located at the base of the handbrake lever. Release and lift the plastic cover at the base of the lever to access the cables (one for each shoe) and their respective adjusters. First, loosen the lock nut and tighten the nut to pull the cable until the lever achieves a travel of 4 to 5 clicks.
