How to Remove and Clean the MAF Sensor

This video shows the procedure to remove and clean the MAF (mass air flow) sensor of a BMW 3 Series. Since the MAF measures the amount of air flowing from the intake to the combustion chamber, it needs to be cleaned periodically to avoid incorrect readings and, consequently, reduced engine performance. First, disconnect its electrical connector. Using a socket wrench, loosen the bolts securing the air box, and with a screwdriver, also loosen the clamp that further secures it. Once the air box is removed, use a screwdriver to release the clips holding the MAF and detach it manually. Using a suitable cleaner, begin to clean the sensor thoroughly, then allow it to air dry. Repeat the process 3 or 4 times until the part is perfectly clean. After cleaning, reassemble the air box by performing the reverse operations of disassembly.
