Check for Air Intake Leak

If there is a leak in the engine air intake system, the engine's performance will become very erratic, with a tendency to stall. You can test this by simulating the failure, intentionally creating a leak and evaluating the engine's behavior. On the intake manifold, there is a small rubber boot secured with a clamp: if you remove the boot while the engine is running, it will start to misfire irregularly until it stalls. Similarly, you can observe how the performance becomes more stable as you bring the boot closer to its seat.
