Here’s how to replace the key fob shell of a BMW vehicle: you can find the part you need on eBay for £5.99 (+£2.60 for shipping). First, remove the old shell. Start by taking out the physical key. Then, cut the old key with a craft knife. Remove the CPU and, if necessary, replace the battery, which is a standard CR2032 available for a few pounds at a newsagent or any supermarket. Pay attention to the polarity during assembly. Place the CPU into the new shell with its battery, reattach the cover and the physical key. The key fob also comes with a blank physical key: you can have it duplicated if desired.
