To replace the gear knob on a BMW 1 Series, use a tool to pry up the leather gaiter that covers the gear lever: once detached, you can also remove the gear knob from the leather covering and consequently from the gear lever. This will allow you to completely remove the piece, position the new gaiter, and secure it with the appropriate clips underneath: this way, you can attach the new gear knob, securing it to the top of the lever.
