In order to replace the battery of the BMW I3 remote control, you need to press the button located on the top back of the device, so that it is possible to remove the key from inside its housing: this way you can use it as a lever to detach the cover on the back of the device, so that the underlying battery is accessible. This can then be removed from its housing and replaced with a new one; after installation, you will need to cover everything with the back panel and insert the key back into its housing.
