Replacing Rear Brake Shoes

Replacing the rear brake shoes has its challenges, particularly reattaching the springs, but with the right tools and some tips, it can be done; start by lifting the vehicle, removing the rear wheel, taking off the protective cap from the drum retaining nut, and unscrewing the nut to remove the drum itself; then disconnect the springs and the retaining pins of the shoes to remove them, also releasing the handbrake cable; thoroughly clean the shoe seating area and if there are any oil residues, proceed with replacing the wheel cylinder: unscrewing the pins may require cutting tools; then install the new wheel cylinder applying copper grease to the retaining pins; move the handbrake levers onto the new shoes and install them onto the hub, resetting the adjustment and correctly attaching the springs; ensure the drum rotates freely before tightening the central nut and peening it, then complete the assembly by bleeding the system.
