What is traction control for? How can I deactivate it on my Fiat Punto? And what happens if I deactivate it? We can answer all these questions in this video. Traction control prevents wheel slippage, which would cause the vehicle to lose stability. It is useful to deactivate it in some extreme situations, where this device causes more harm than good: for example, starting on a snowy uphill road, or if we are on a very muddy road. To deactivate the component (which in this case is called ASR) just press the button located to the right of the hazard button. A small light will come on to remind us to press the button again to reactivate the function, when we are out of trouble.
