How to Clean the Intake Pressure Sensor (MAP) on a Fiat 1.3 MultiJet Engine

Let's see how to clean the MAP sensor on the Fiat 1.3 MultiJet engine: in the case examined, it was completely blocked by soot and oil deposits, causing rough running and a bad smell from the exhaust. To clean it, first disconnect the battery; the MAP sensor is located in a very awkward position on the intake manifold. You will need to remove the hoses and loosen the clips, and move the cables to create more space. Once at the sensor, disconnect the connector, unscrew the fixing bolt, and extract the sensor: cleaning must be extremely delicate to avoid damaging the sensitive internal part: use a bent wire to remove the larger deposits, and for the rest, use a quick-drying electrical contact cleaner; do not use compressed air as it may break the membrane. Before reassembling, clean the intake manifold hole as well, or it will block the sensor again in no time. Refit the sensor, screw in the fixing bolt and the electrical connector, reconnect the battery, and test the operation.
