How to Identify a Faulty Parking Sensor

Let’s see how to identify a faulty parking sensor on this Fiat 500e: instead of the normal intermittent "beeps" that become more frequent as you approach an obstacle, you will hear a coded sequence: one long beep/one short beep/one short beep/one short beep. This means: "long beep = fault alarm. The number of short beeps indicates which sensor is faulty. The self-diagnosis works by engaging reverse multiple times to identify the faulty sensor. To decode the number of "beeps", count from left to right relative to the bumper where they are mounted: 1 beep = 1st sensor from the left; 2 beeps = 2nd sensor from the left; 3 beeps = 3rd sensor from the left; 4 beeps = 4th sensor from the left. Therefore, if you hear one long beep and three short beeps, the faulty sensor is the third from the left on the rear bumper. A physical confirmation can be made with the vehicle running and in reverse. A functioning sensor emits a slight "clicking" sound. The silent one is the faulty sensor.
