Guide to Fitting a Crankshaft

The crankshaft is a component that converts the reciprocating motion of the pistons into rotary motion, which is then transferred to the gearbox. To fit the crankshaft, you need to remove the oil seal cover, dry and clean the bearing seat on the crankshaft. Position the half-bearings on the pins of the block on the side of the sump and install the clean, dry crankshaft. Fit the rear seal cover after replacing the gasket, and once the flywheel is mobilised and positioned, secure it with new bolts. To centre the crankshaft in the housings, it is advisable to use the shim method, pulling it a bit from one side and a bit from the other until it rotates smoothly.
