If the handbrake is too loose or too tight, it may be time to adjust it. The operation is very simple and can be done on your own. First, using a cross-head screwdriver, remove the handbrake cover (the "cap" at the back) and you will see a kind of nut (the "column"). By tightening it, the lever moves away from the handbrake and becomes progressively more precise.

Then reassemble everything.

The vehicle model illustrated in this video is a Fiat Punto, but the operation is very similar in other Fiat car models.
