To personalise the interior of the Fiat 500, replace the standard gear gaiter with a more attractive one. To remove the old gaiter, start by taking off the top cap, which displays the gear pattern, using a cutter. Use a socket spanner to undo the nut at the top of the lever, then remove the knob and the spring underneath.

Disconnect the base of the gaiter and lift it to reveal the clip that holds it in place; cut it and remove the old gaiter. Refit the spring and the new knob, insert the top part of the gaiter and secure it under the knob, place the base back in its housing and lock it in place.
