In this video, we explore the problems that the locks on the Fiat Punto 188 can cause and their respective solutions. The lock is held by two bolts visible after removing the cover; if the cable is broken and does not release, you need to remove the cover secured with four 10mm nuts.

It is also necessary to enlarge the holes indicated in the video to access the previously mentioned bolts, allowing you to open the bonnet and replace the cable or spring, as shown in the subsequent illustration, to which the cable must be attached.

It may be that after the bonnet does not close properly on the bodywork due to the adjustment that needs to be made.

If it is necessary to change the rod as well, there is a little trick to facilitate the operation: tape the end of the old cable to the new one and lubricate with WD-40. To determine if the cable is damaged: from inside the car, it will feel very loose.

If the problem is with the lock, try accessing from underneath the car to the lock and pull the cable for opening, or give sharp taps from the outside near the lock.
