In this video, the YouTuber is amazed by the fact that Ford has also succumbed to the allure of the oil-bath belt on the 1.0/1.5 3-cylinder Ecoboost engines. In fact, Ford stopped installing this component in 2019, and since that year, the 1.0 Ecoboost has been equipped with a chain. The 1.5 4-cylinder has always had a chain. Compared to the PSA belt, the Ford one has some advantages: the belt is made of rubber reinforced with fiberglass, making it less prone to degradation from fragment detachment, unlike the PSA belt which is made of hydrophilic rubber (and thus tends to absorb oil); the tensioner is automatic hydraulic rather than mechanical. In both cases, regular oil changes according to specifications are crucial for preserving the belt.
