Ford Focus - Video tutorial

Model: Ford Focus MK 1 - Years 1998-2004
Part: Engine head
Operation: Replacing the valve cover gasket

This video replaces the internal valve cover gasket and brackets on a Ford Focus. Using the tip of a small slotted screwdriver, detach the throttle valves and cruise control cables by releasing the red and gray clips. After removing the fixing bolt, pull out the four spark plugs one at a time. After having lifted and put aside the whole set of spark plugs with the relative cables, it will be necessary to free the valve cover from any obstacle that prevents its removal. It is best to remove each candle as well. At this point, with a ratchet and an extension you can unscrew all the bolts that secure the valve cover (two of them are positioned in the central part of it). Once the lid has been lifted, the cleaning of the spark plug well is analyzed. Even the candles will need to be cleaned if necessary. Now take the valve cover and, with a slotted screwdriver, taking care not to damage its plastic, remove the two internal brackets and the external perimeter gasket. After replacing these three pieces with new ones, the wells are cleaned inside. After cleaning and the aforementioned replacements, proceed to reassemble everything as before, repeating the disassembly operations in reverse.

Handbrake adjustment on Ford Ecosport

First remove the plastic profile at the base of the gear lever. To do this, slightly widen the side edges and carefully lift it to release it. There is no need to remove it completely, just move it forward to avoid bother. Now remove the plastic center console around the handbrake by first working from the rear to release it and lifting it until the brake lever passes. Also in this case it is not necessary to remove it completely but, paying attention to the connected cables, it can be stowed in front of the passenger seat. At this point we notice that at the base of the handbrake lever, on the front, we find a nut. By acting on it, with a 10 wrench, we can adjust the brake force, increasing it by turning the nut clockwise, or decreasing it by turning it counterclockwise. Once adjusted, the center console can be repositioned first, pressing lightly to engage it, and then the profile of the gearbox base.
