A hydraulic lifter is a device used to maintain zero valve clearance in an internal combustion engine. Conventional valve lifters require regular adjustment to maintain a small gap between the valve and its rocker.

This gap prevents parts from binding as they expand with engine heat, but it can also cause increased wear as parts collide with each other until they reach operating temperature. The hydraulic lifter is designed to compensate for this small tolerance.

The hydraulic lifter, located between the camshaft and the valve of each engine, is a hollow steel cylinder that houses an internal piston. To solidify a lifter, you can proceed with small welds or disassemble the lifter to remove the internal spring and install washers to occupy the space and prevent the lifter piston from compressing.

How to Activate the Disabled TRC on the Toyota Yaris?

As the video clearly shows, disabling or activating the traction control (TRC or ESP) on the Toyota Yaris is very simple. By default, the traction system activates every time the vehicle is started. To disable it, simply press the button depicting a skidding car located in the centre of the vehicle where the controls are, such as the hazard lights and the radio, but near the handbrake. Once disabled, the TRC off light will illuminate on the dashboard. To reactivate it, just press the same button again.
