Video tutorial
In this procedure, see how to change the thermostat and its housing on a Jeep Wrangler (model from 2007 to 2018): for the thermostat housing and the thermostat, the video uses "Mopar" parts. To perform this operation, you will need some tools, such as a 1/4 inch ratchet with a 10mm socket, a torque wrench set to 105 inch-pounds, and a specific tightening tool. Before starting, I have already begun inserting the thermostat into its housing and, following the instructions provided with the replacement part, we should trim the excess areas of the gasket around the perimeter to make it flush with our outer gasket using a small blade, cutting only the excess parts so that it is flush. Now, at the front of the vehicle, note that there is a nut on each side of the thermostat housing; before removing these nuts, we need to remove the upper hose; to do this, using a flat screwdriver, loosen the screw holding the hose clamp in place, remove the plug, and lift the hose with the air filter box to release the clips. Now, near the hose, we find two bolts, one on each side; first, remove the tab holding the thermostat hose in place with a specific tightening tool and slide the hose off. At this point, we can remove the two bolts using the 10mm socket, being careful not to lose them, then remove the thermostat. Now, ensure that the thermostat inlet is clean; for this, use brake cleaner spray and wipe around with a cloth. At this point, we can place the thermostat with its housing back in position, re-tightening the bolts ensuring it is flush first by hand and then with a torque wrench (torque setting of 105 inch-pounds), reinsert the thermostat hose with its tab holding it in place. Now, we can reinsert the upper hose with the air filter box, ensuring the hose is secured, reconnect the plug, and finally re-tighten the clamp holding the hose in position.
