How to Repair the Folding Mirrors on a Mazda CX-5 After a Car Wash or Heavy Rain

After a wash or a rainstorm, the electric mirrors may not open or close properly, or may move jerkily: the cause is likely water entering the closing mechanism, causing oxidation or temporary blockages. A quick solution (without disassembling the mirror) is to use a penetrating lubricant, such as WD-40. Spray a generous amount in the area of the mirror joint, both front and back; manually move the mirror back and forth to allow the product to penetrate well; repeat several times, wiping off any excess. If it is necessary to disassemble the glass/mirror, move it all the way up and outwards, gently push outwards without pulling from the edge (which could break!); unclip the clips and the glass will come off, allowing you to see the motorised mechanism: Look for the cable pass-throughs with rubber seals: these are the holes to treat. Insert the narrow nozzle of the spray directly into the holes of the cable seals; the lubricant will penetrate directly into the folding motor, displacing the water and lubricating the internal parts. To reassemble the glass, reconnect any plugs, align the clips, and press firmly until you hear the clips click. Test the operation of the mirror.
