A Difficult Problem with the Immobiliser on the Mazda MX5

In this video, we see a Mazda MX5 where the key turns but the vehicle does not start. The immobiliser light does not illuminate when the key is inserted (it should light up and then turn off). It remains off and flashes after a while. The PCM returns code P1624, and the immobiliser module has its internal code DTC03 (transponder not recognised). Placing an LED ring around the ignition barrel, the light does not flash when the key is inserted (the reader coil is not powered). Power and ground to the immobiliser module are fine, the resistance is normal, and there is no signal on the coil wires when the key is inserted. The culprit is the immobiliser module, which does not send power to the coil, thus failing to read the key chip. Unfortunately, the old immobiliser (as per Mazda's technical bulletin) is no longer available, so replacing it also requires an updated PCM and two keys for programming. The repair becomes complex and costly. Even attempts to re-solder all the pins have not been successful; a complete replacement kit is needed.
