If your Mazda MX-5 is equipped with the "rear traffic assist" system, it will signal with an audible alert when vehicles are approaching during reverse manoeuvres. This system can be activated and deactivated at will by pressing the dedicated button on the central dashboard.

When switched off, the warning light will flash. Some Mazda owners with this system have reported that it does not function in certain situations, such as: - vehicle on a slope; - vehicle reversing at more than 6 miles/h; - sensor area obstructed; - vehicle approaching directly from behind.
