Repair of Faulty Display in the Instrument Cluster

Repairing the instrument cluster is a delicate operation, so it is advisable to perform the work under the guidance of someone experienced in electronics and with the necessary tools. After removing the panel from the vehicle, remove the screws at the bottom to access the instrumentation. Before completely disassembling the electronic circuit, remove the indicator needles from the instruments. All subsequent operations should be performed on an anti-static mat connected to the appropriate wrist straps to prevent any electrostatic discharges. An electrostatic discharge could cause significant damage to the electronics. To free the printed circuit board, disconnect the mylar flat cable from the ZIF connector. The ZIF connector has a plastic tab that needs to be pushed outward to release the cable. Once the printed circuit board is free, disengage the plastic clips holding the faulty display. Replacing the display must be done very carefully as it is necessary to position the conductive rubber and the corresponding polyester printed circuit board in the correct position to ensure perfect alignment of the electrical contacts with the rest of the circuit. Poor alignment will result in malfunctioning of the display. Do not touch the electrical contacts of the display with your hands. After the repair, reinstall the circuit in the dashboard and check for proper operation.
