One way to solve the malfunction of the active hood of a Mercedes A-Class

In this video we see a problem that often occurs on Mercedes cars: the malfunction of the "active hood" system, which is the pedestrian protection system that slightly raises the hood in case of impact, to cushion the blow with the pedestrian. The video shows us that the airbag control unit records two "open circuit" error codes for both the right and left lifting actuators. The mechanic then disconnects the actuators and connects a jumper directly to the wiring connectors that go to the control unit. If the control unit now reads 0 Ohms (short circuit), it means that the wiring is intact and the SRS control unit is functioning properly. The actuators are expensive to replace, and the solution shown is a bypass, but this intervention deactivates the pedestrian protection system, so in case of an accident, the hood will not lift to protect the pedestrian. The ethical and correct solution is to replace the faulty actuators with original ones to restore the full functionality of the safety system.
