Instructions for Disassembling the Automatic Gear Shift Lever

Model: Mercedes Classe C W202 - Years 1993-2000

At the base of the gear shift lever, there is a splined bushing that allows it to connect with the gear selector. This bushing can wear out, causing a loose connection between the two levers. To replace this bushing, remove the cover of the center tunnel, starting with the trim at the base of the gear shift lever, then the shift knob (detach the collar at the base of the knob to pull it off), the ashtray at the base of the console, and finally the armrest. Once you reach the base of the gear shift lever, remove the four mounting pins to access the bushing.
