The failure of the LCD display on the instrument cluster is a common issue not only on Mercedes-Benz models but also on many other German cars like Volkswagens. Fortunately, it is easy to find these replacement parts in the aftermarket, and there are many companies specializing in this type of repair. To perform a DIY repair, you need good manual skills, especially for gluing or soldering the flat cables that connect the display to the circuit board of the instrument cluster. If you want to try, once you remove the gauge from the dashboard, remove the needles by rotating them and complete the disassembly of the gauge to access the circuit board. Remove the bulbs and then take out the display by peeling off the flat cable, clean the contacts thoroughly, secure the display on your workbench with masking tape, and glue the new flat cable before attaching it to the circuit board, removing any excess tape.
