To replace the timing chain on a Mercedes C-Class, loosen the bolts securing the timing chain cover on the left side of the engine block. Once the cover is removed, you can access the underlying chain. By loosening the tensioner, you can reduce the tension on the chain, detaching it from the camshaft sprockets and the crankshaft sprocket. This allows you to install the new chain around the sprockets and restore tension by reinstalling the tensioner.
