Mistakes to Avoid When Maintaining a Mini Cooper

Model: Mini Mini - Years 2007-2014
Part: Checks and maintenance

Video tutorial
Detailed instructions - These are the 12 mistakes to avoid with the Mini Cooper. 1) Using petrol below the minimum grade indicated (risk of damage). 2) Treating all run flats the same: speed and distance limits vary by generation and load. 3) Not checking the oil between services. 4) Ignoring sudden heavy steering (there is a recall for this, 15V-660). 5) Using oil with the wrong specification (viscosity alone is not enough). 6) Driving with a slipping clutch. 7) Ignoring wet footwells and the FRM module (there is also a recall for this, recall 23V337). 8) Combining poor quality fuel and short trips on the N14 engine (deposits). 9) Leaving the fire hazard recall open (auxiliary water pump). 10) Ignoring the noise from the timing chain (always on the N14 engine). 11) Underestimating coolant loss. 12) Driving with the red warning light on: stop immediately.

How to Adjust the Handbrake on a BMW 1 Series?

To adjust the handbrake on a BMW 1 Series, use a tool to pry off the leather cover that wraps around the base of the handbrake lever. Once this cover is removed, you will be able to locate the spring that regulates the handbrake tension. At this point, adjust the nut located at the base of the spring: tightening the nut will make the handbrake firmer and reduce the lever's travel. Conversely, loosening the nut will decrease the handbrake's firmness and increase the lever's travel.
