How to remove the steering wheel airbag of a Mini Cooper

Model: Mini Mini R52, R50, R53 - Years 2001-2007
Part: Airbag

Before we are able to start, we will have to disconnect the battery of our Mini Cooper, so as to work safely. We start by sitting in the driver's seat. After that, we will have to unscrew and remove the rear screws that secure the airbag to the steering wheel, turning the steering wheel first on one side and then on the other. By doing so, we will have released the airbag itself. At this point, we will have to disconnect the electrical connector connected to the airbag, and then remove it from the steering wheel. When we have extracted the airbag from the steering wheel of our Mini Cooper, we will have correctly completed its disassembly.

Remove the plastic cover of the centre tunnel (right side of the tunnel), then remove the plastic cover from the filter cap (located inside the centre tunnel), and extract the worn cabin filter. Insert a new cabin filter, ensuring it fits snugly around the walls of the housing: refit the filter cap and secure the container (close the glove compartment located in the centre tunnel). Check the correct installation of the previously fitted parts.
