How to replace the alternator on a Mitsubishi Space Star

Let's see what the procedure is for changing the alternator on a Mitsubishi Space Star: we start by disconnecting the negative pole of the battery, if necessary we lift the car to have more space. On this vehicle, the alternator also functions as a tensioner belt; so we mark with a marker or a punch, its position in relation to the support. This will facilitate the reassembly of the new belt with the correct tension. Loosen the 12 mm nut on the alternator adjustment arm and the 14 mm nut at the bottom, which secures the alternator to the engine block; rotate the alternator towards the engine to loosen the belt and remove it from the pulleys. Remove the electrical connector, unscrew the fixing nut that holds the thick positive cable (which goes to the battery; that's why it's necessary to disconnect it first!). Now we can remove the fixing nuts and extract the alternator from its housing. Clean the support points on the engine block before positioning the new alternator that we will bring back to the previously marked point. Reconnect the positive cable, insert the electrical connector, put the distribution belt back on the pulleys and adjust its tension: reconnect the negative terminal of the battery and start the engine. Check that the warning light on the dashboard is off.
