How the Keyless Entry System Works on Opel Vehicles (Astra K/Mokka X/Insignia B)

The keyless entry system on Opel vehicles is called "Open & Start" or "Keyless Open" and allows you to open, close, and start the car without taking the remote out of your pocket. It works via radio frequency sensors located in the door handles and boot. When you approach the car (within about 1 metre), the system recognises the remote and automatically unlocks the doors as soon as you pull the handle. To close, simply press the button on the outer handle (or walk away: on some models, the car locks itself after a few seconds). To start the engine, press the clutch or brake pedal and press the Start button without inserting the key. The system checks that the remote is inside the cabin. If the remote's battery is dead, you can still open it with the emergency key (blade removed from the shell) and start the car by placing the remote in the designated slot near the Start button. Note: the system can be disabled from the vehicle menu (option "Keyless Open" or "Keyless Access") for security reasons. If the system does not work, check the remote battery (CR2032), any electromagnetic interference, or a flat car battery.
