Tips for Lifting a Car with a Sports Suspension

Model: Vauxhall Astra Astra H - Years 2004-2010
Part: Checks and maintenance

If your car has a particularly low sports suspension or has attachments on the sills, here’s a simple tip on how to lift the car for repairs or maintenance. Position a standard hydraulic jack under the sill to lift the car a few inches. Now, get a thick and sturdy block of wood or a large stone to place under the wheel lifted off the ground. Lower the car so that the wheel rests on the wooden, metal, or stone support. Reposition the jack in a more central location under the car and lift it again to the optimal height for placing the axle stand.

How to Remove the Front Shock Absorber on a Peugeot 406

How to remove the front shock absorber on a Peugeot 406? The first step is to lift the bonnet and secure it with the prop rod. Use a socket wrench to unscrew the shock absorber mounting bolts (engine bay), lift the car on a column lift and remove the front wheel. Unscrew the shock absorber mounting bolts at the wheel hub (detach the brake line clips with a screwdriver). Unscrew the bolts on the side, then remove the shock absorber from its housing (place a support under the bar). Compare the old part with the new one and prepare for installation. Fit the new shock absorber to the car, working in reverse order.
