How to Replace the Stalk Switch on a Renault Scenic

The breakage of the spiral cable inside the stalk switch, leading to the airbag warning light coming on and loss of function of the steering wheel controls, is a common fault on many Renault and Nissan models that use the same type of replacement part. Inside the stalk switch, there is a flat cable that can become damaged and break due to continuous rotation of the steering wheel. It is also possible to replace this cable rather than the entire stalk switch, but in any case, disassembly will be necessary. First, disconnect the battery, remove the covers of the stalk, release the airbag by inserting a screwdriver into the hole behind the steering wheel spoke to disengage the retaining spring, unscrew the steering wheel fixing pin and slide it off the column, and finally unscrew the pin that tightens the fixing clamp of the stalk, disconnecting the connectors to complete the disassembly.
