How to Replace the Timing Chain on a Seat Ibiza 1.2 Petrol

Model: Seat Ibiza 6P, 6J - Years 2008-2017

Open the bonnet and immediately disconnect the battery (always disconnect the negative terminal first). Unclip and remove the upper engine protection cover, then locate the timing belt cover on the left side of the engine block. There are clips on the sides of the cover that need to be opened to remove it. Loosen the auxiliary belt tensioner and remove the belt. Unscrew the securing bolts of the lower timing belt cover. Insert two pins into the two upper pulleys to prevent them from going out of phase. Remove the mounting nuts of the engine support and then remove the engine support plate from the block. Mark the position of a tooth on a lower pulley relative to a tooth on the belt with a marker, and do the same on the upper pulleys and both belts. Loosen the tensioner pulley bolt and remove the belt. Always mark the relative position of the belt to the pulley with a marker. Install the new belts and reverse all the reassembly operations.
