Seat Ibiza: How to Replace the Timing Belt on the Petrol Engine

Model: Seat Ibiza 6P, 6J - Years 2008-2017

To replace the timing belt on the Seat Ibiza, start by raising the front right side of the car, removing the wheel, and taking off the inner wheel arch lining by unscrewing the screws that secure it to the bumper and the chassis. This will give you access to the lower timing covers. In the engine bay, clear the area around the timing side and remove the aluminium engine mount, working only when the engine is properly supported. Once the plastic covers are removed, set the engine to the correct timing and lock the camshafts with the appropriate alignment tools inserted into the pulleys; also align the mark on the crankshaft. Loosen the tensioner, slide off the old belt, and replace the tensioner and guide pulleys with the new components from the kit. Fit the new belt, ensuring the correct routing and keeping the tension side taut; then adjust the tensioner until the tension indicator falls within the specified range. Manually rotate the engine a few complete turns and check that the timing marks still align. When you are confident of the alignment, refit the covers, engine mount, wheel arch lining, and wheel, then lower the Seat Ibiza to the ground and start the engine to check the smooth operation of the new timing belt.
