In this video, you will see how to replace the auxiliary belt on a Smart 451. First, remove the left rear wheel, then lift the vehicle and access the protective cover behind the shock absorber, using some penetrating oil; once removed, you will see the belt.

Loosen the alternator tensioner bolt, leverage it (without removing it completely), and the belt will loosen.

When this belt frays, it can happen - as in this case - that it hits the oil bulb, cutting it. Therefore, you will also need to change that. Before fitting the new belt, ensure there are no pieces of the old one along the path.

When fitting the new belt, always run a test to verify it is positioned correctly. Recharge the alternator and you're done.
