Spacers definitely give a gritty look to the car, bringing the tires flush with the bodywork, if not beyond: this depends on the thickness. The quality of the object we mount, as it must be mounted on the wheels that come into contact with the road, is extremely important. But let's get to the painful notes: are spacers illegal? In and of themselves, no, but the tire must not be flush with the wheel arch, let alone exceed it. The law prescribes that it must be at least 5 cm away from the wheel arch, because a protruding wheel could be dangerous for a cyclist or pedestrian, and stones and debris on the road, instead of going towards the wheel arch, go outward and are therefore considered dangerous. In general, if the traffic police see through the alloy wheels that there is a spacer, at the very least they will give us a fine! So we must consider this element very carefully. Normally this operation is done for aesthetic purposes, but it actually also improves road holding. But let's get to the negative aspects (assuming we have purchased high-quality material): we are subject to premature wear of the hub bearings, due to a purely physical issue; from this point of view, it also increases the size of the transverse arm of the suspension, making steering more sensitive to rough terrain.
