How to Fix a Car Bonnet That is Stuck Closed

In this video, we address the issue of a car bonnet that is stuck closed. The main causes can vary: a broken or disconnected internal release lever, a snapped or detached release cable from the lock mechanism, a weak bonnet spring (which no longer pushes the bonnet after release); a jammed safety mechanism (the secondary latch does not open), not to mention that rust or dirt in the lock can prevent movement. The first step is to check the internal lever: if it is detached, grasp the cable with long-nose pliers and pull. Alternatively, apply lubricant (WD-40) into the bonnet lock, then tap lightly while an assistant pulls the lever. If the cable is intact but the lock is jammed, try to act directly on the mechanism by looking through the grille at the front of the bonnet and using a long screwdriver to press the secondary release lever. If the spring is weak, manually lift the bonnet while an assistant pulls the lever. If all else fails, you may need to call a mechanic: it might be necessary to access from underneath to unlock the mechanism.
