How do tire pressure monitoring systems work?

Tire pressure monitoring systems are divided into indirect (the simplest) and direct (the most advanced). Indirect systems are based on calculations made by ABS sensors on the number of wheel rotations: if a tire is deflated, it will have a lower number of rotations than the others, causing a warning light to come on. In this case, we must stop and check all four tires to determine which one is the issue. Direct systems, on the other hand, have a sensor on each tire that detects and sends tire pressure information to the car's control unit. If one of these sensors detects pressure lower than the set value, it signals a warning and the control unit indicates which tire has lost pressure. Many vehicles only activate these sensors at a certain speed to avoid unnecessary battery consumption, as the battery cannot be replaced separately and the entire device must be replaced.
