In this video, the youtuber - an experienced mechanic - makes a strong statement and a warning against a harmful and unfortunately still widespread practice, namely that of drilling the DPF to deactivate its function and avoid expensive replacements or regenerations. He compares this practice to what was done in scooters to limit their speed, that is, putting a restriction in the exhaust. In fact, drilling the DPF creates exactly the opposite effect to the desired one. The consequences are disastrous: the drilled DPF is completely clogged, becoming a block of cement, and the exhaust gases no longer pass through the porous walls of the filter, but are forced to pass only through the holes, creating a very high back pressure, which can lead to very serious consequences, because the gases struggling to escape compromise the combustion cycle. An alternative solution is to replace the DPF with a 200-cell downpipe, an aftermarket component designed not to create harmful back pressures. A definitely more economical solution is to empty the DPF of soot, but keeping its external casing. Drilling remains the worst choice by far.
