In this video, we will see the symptoms of a faulty timing chain: first of all, an engine that offers reduced performance, weak acceleration due to desynchronisation between the crankshaft and camshaft. You may also hear a ticking or rattling noise, especially when cold and at low revs, due to a loose chain or wear on the tensioners. The engine light will come on, indicating an error code P0016; you may find metal particles in the oil filter, which is a sign of wear on the chain or guides. If the engine does not start or stalls immediately, the valves do not open or close properly, rendering the engine unusable. You will also notice an increase in fuel consumption due to ineffective combustion from incorrect timing. Last but not least, a damaged chain can compromise the oil pump, reducing lubrication.
