How to Replace the Oil Filter

The video shows the four main types of tools for replacing the oil filter: cap type that screws directly onto the filter; three-legged type that grips the filter; chain type that wraps around the filter and tightens; and strap type similar to the chain but with a metal or rubber strap. The procedure for changing the filter involves draining the oil. The filter is located on the side or bottom of the engine, and choose the appropriate tool for your filter: the cap tool is fine for easy positions; for hard-to-reach ones, use the chain or strap, and for very tight filters, the three-legged tool. Position the tool and turn counterclockwise. Be careful not to force it. If the filter is stuck, use a sturdier tool or a hammer: to remove it, tilt it slightly. Prepare the new filter, lubricate the gasket with clean engine oil, screw it on by hand without overtightening to avoid damaging the gasket. Refill the oil and start the engine for a moment to fill the filter, then check the oil level.
