How to Test if the Mass Air Flow Sensor is Damaged or Dirty

In this video, we can see a simple procedure to diagnose the functionality of the mass air flow sensor. Symptoms of a faulty sensor include: engine lacking power or experiencing drops in performance; increased fuel consumption; unstable RPM at idle or during acceleration; engine light on, with possible diagnostic errors such as P0100/P0104. Perform a preliminary test by disconnecting the electrical connector of the MAF and starting the engine. If the engine improves, then the MAF is dirty or damaged; if the engine worsens, then the MAF is functioning (as the ECU uses default values). To clean it, use a specific product without ever touching the internal filaments: absolutely do not use compressed air or aggressive products like alcohol or solvents. If you want to check with a diagnostic tool, read the airflow values with an OBD2 tool: at engine off, it should read 0 g/s at idle, with values between 2-7 g/s: if the values are irregular or zero, the sensor is faulty. If the problem persists after cleaning, replace the part.
